So a little while ago I got the chance to go back to New Orleans. I really enjoyed my second trip there because I enjoy the history of the city. On this trip I went with some family that had never been there before. We stayed at the south end of the French Quarter on Canal Street. It was much closer to the activities in the French Quarter than the Garden District where I stayed on my first trip. Overall it was a very nice trip, but the weather was not super cooperative. On one day it poured rain all day. The rest of the trip had good weather though.
Along Canal Street run some streetcars (“A Streetcar Named Desire”). Crossing the street I managed to get a shot of one.

We did three activities while we were there, a mule drawn carriage tour of the French Quarter and cemeteries, a tour of the Mardi Gras Museum, and a walking tour of the Garden District. All three events were fun. Luckily the Mardi Gras Museum tour was on the rainy day as the other two tours were outdoor activities.

If you ever go to New Orleans, I recommend the mule tours. The French Quarter history is very interesting including the information about the history of the area, the architecture, and the people who lived in the various homes in the area. These cemeteries were interesting as a part of the tour as well. The history of the entire city is quite fascinating.
Here is a shot of a mule tour going through the French Quarter.

The Mardi Gras Museum was another interesting tour. The same company makes all of the various floats for Mardi Gras. The creativity and construction of the floats was very interesting to watch and learn about. Luckily, since it was raining, the tour is indoors in a giant warehouse.
After the Mardi Gras Museum tour it was raining so hard that I literally saw a manhole cover lifted by water coming up from the ground.
In the walking tour of the Garden District, we saw very interesting architecture. The neighborhood was a pleasant walk and the history of that neighborhood is also fun to learn about.

In the evening, I was able to get into the French Quarter (before it got too out of hand) with my camera. I found some great neon signs and got some shots of them. I also managed to get a shot of Jackson Square at night.
